No Hours ~ WTF?!

Ok, so last night around 6 pm I call my boss at home because she hasn't given me my hours for the week yet. This isn't odd, she usually calls me on Sunday night to let me know my hours even though she's supposed to have the schedules done by Friday afternoon.

So anyway, I call her, right? Well, she informs me that she doesn't have any hours for me this week. WTF? She's all like, "we just don't have enough kids in Toddler room or infant room" Well, there are two other rooms for me to work in. I think this is rediculous. There should always be some work. Have me come in and clean. Lord knows the place needs a scrubbing from top to bottom. They even have mold and mildew in their air system and have recently poured bleach in it to get rid of the problem.

This is just the icing on the cake. I asked her on Friday when I worked if she wanted me to give her the dates I'd be home for holidays and she said, "No. Don't worry about it." Ok, so what does that mean? That I won't be employed there once I go to college? Is the way she's treating me even legal? I'm pissed. I need money for college and I'd get a different job, but I have a month until I move away and it's just not worth the search to find a job who will take me for a month.

Did you sign a contract stating the minimal amount of hours you must work during a week? I know I did when I got my lifeguarding job. So if you did, they must give you a certain amount of hours per week. I believe the minimum for any type of job is 20 hours. I hope this helps, if not, then I have no clue what to tell you. Good Luck.

Ok, I know I'm kind of reviving a dying thread, but I got a call from my boss today saying that yet again, I have no hours for this week. That's 2 weeks now folks. A whole freakin' pay period. Nothing. Now, I'd like to know how I'm supposed to pay for college with paychecks that are non-existant? hmm?

That sucks ass, you'll be moving in a couple weeks, so I wouldn't let it get too much under your skin if it happens next week... :-/

Target likes to pull the same bullshit. If they ask you to come in, you say ok, but you won't close (people who close the store usually have to stay about 4 hours after the store has closed), they'll cut your hours by 50%. It happened to my boyfriend. He worked 6 days last week and this week, he only works 3. Good luck to you though, just make her life a living hell.

I would of quit after the first couple of days of 'no work', especially if I was a student such as yourself. Dont give them the finger though, you do want a good reference right?
