Last winter I had loads of gold finches in my garden throughout, even when the weather got really cold and at snowed. Since it got cold this winter however, I haven't seen a single one until yesterday when I did have just one lonely little gold finch at the feeder for a few minutes!
Can anyone shed any light for me as to why they're not coming this year?
I have a bird table and lots of different feeders including a nyjer seed feeder for the gold finches with some dried teasels planted under it so the finches can find it, plus a shallow water dish. I get blackbirds, robins, sparrows, lots of starlings, chaffinches, blue, great and long tailed, t its, wagtails, wood pigeons, collared doves and even a green woodpecker occasionally.
I'm not an expert on avian activity, just enjoy watching the birds in my garden.
