Background: I am a 30 year old male. Nearly three years ago now, I started experiencing food impaction. It got worse and worse to where I ended up in the ER. After about 7 months of stick it out, it's in your head, etc., Diagnosed GERD and hiatal. More tests were ran and we decided to do the surgery after PPI's didn't work. Mostly because I had the sensation of food stuck in my throat whenever I ate(therefore I was didn't eat sold fooRAB for about a year and lost over 100lbs [luckily, I was overweight and could afford it]) After the surgery I was cautious, but eventually got back to eating solid fooRAB again, though chewing throughrouly is a big. I still avoid solid pieces of meat and other types of food which seem to irritate my throat, but on the whole, I have felt much better over the past couple of years.

Fast forward to the last month or so. I stated having some brief, low intensity chest pains. They were rare and seldom lasted for more than a second or two. They became more frequent, but still were very brief. This started to corabine with a feeling of low-blood pressure, dizziness and vertigo. These caused panic attacks. It got worse and worse over the past week and a half. Last night after dinner I had to run back into work and on my way back home, I had a very odd feeling in my chest. It was like someone was pouring water in my chest cavity, but outside my throat, not inside, with a lot of pressure on my LES. Freaked my out big time, went to the ER. After being at the hopsital for a couple of hours, the discomfort turned to some of the worst burning I'd ever felt. Got the standard GI cocktail (after making sure it wasn't a heart attack) and sent home. Back to the local doctor today for more PPI's, which I have been off for nearly two years, and probably back to the GI doctor.

Does anyone who has had a Nissen with a hernia experienced failure, and if so, could you describe it. Thanks.

I had my Nissen in 2008. I had some reflux-like symptoms this winter. I had a Barium Swallow test done. It showed that my wrap was still in tact and that there wasn't any refluxing. This allowed me to figure out the best course of treatment. It also gave me peace of mind in my wrap.

I'd say that maybe you should ask your doctor about being tested to see how your wrap is doing?

You could have a barium swallow to see if it shows reflux or the doctor could scope you to take a look at you internally. You could also be having esophageal spams caused by irritation when you swallow. It may or not be failure of your wrap that is causing your symptoms.
