Nirvana- nevermind album review

Sometimes it makes me wonder if this albums detractors hate this album because of their theological standpoint (the album that sold grunge out or whatever) than a musical one.

Id say it the pop production on it is pretty good. Personally I prefer In Utero in terms of both aesthetic and composition but Id still rate Nevermind. If it had been recorded with acoustic guitar on a 4 track at home I doubt it would have gone multi platinum.

First of all I hate every band you mentioned in 1990. Second of all, YOU SKIPPED A WHOLE F**KIN DECADE!!! Which was the decade in which I got in to music and the decade from which most of the music I listen to comes from. Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down, Stone Temple Pilots, The ORABpring, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (who had a lot more good music than just "Impression that I Get"), old Weezer, old Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age, and even banRAB that I don't care for that much like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and even some Dave Mathews (and trust me I'm NOT a DMB fan), it's all a lot better than any thing that came the 10 years previous to Nirvana. The 90's rocked! But that's just my opinion.

I'm fairly certain Dave was not on Bleach at all.

Then why not here? I mean that was as well constructed a post as we see on here, and its evident he wasn't a fan boi who wouldn't hear any decent. If you're not going to add anything to a conversation, they do as you say you often do and skip over it. This isn't a poll.

It wasn't constructive and it doesn't progress the conversation.

That's another thing everyones like zomgz Dave Ghrolz!!! I like Channing he's not impressive but it definitely fits.

Because I really hate this album. If I would've made the post "I love this album" there wouldn't be anything to be said about it so I don't understand why a post with the same effectiveness but on the opposite side is bitched about, which doesn't progress conversation either, huh. I didn't make a personal comment or say anything demeaning. I can't stand this god damn album.

Wow, you just called the Red Hot Chili Peppers a crappy rock band. That shows how much you know about music you f**king retard. I can understand if they don't agree with your tastes, but a crappy rock band?!?!?!

If you really think that, you need to check out some of the good music from the 80s. The decade wasn't all about hair banRAB. Groups like The Pixies, Husker Du, Swans, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Godflesh, Jane's Addiction, The Red Hot Chili Peppers (who did most of their best stuff in the 80s) and Killing Joke (who Nirvana stole the melody of "Come As You Are" from) among many, many others established sounRAB that Nirvana simply followed.

I think 'hate' maybe a too strong a word as far as i'm concerned.

I think the word I would use would be cynical.

I would say as far as Nevermind goes that it's a good impact album , but once that initial impact as worn off you are left with very little.

Just looking at Nevermind it seems like a checklist for mainstream success.

Good looking blonde singer ... Check
Clean production with hip producer ... Check
Loud anthemic lead single (Smells Like Teen Spirit) ... Check
Follow up mellower single (Come As You Are)
Sensitive ballad (Polly) ... Check
Potential follow up singles (Lithium , In Bloom) ... Check
Loud shouty short song to break up the commercial songs (Territorial Pissings) ... Check
Slightly longer meloncholic 'serious' song (Something in the Way) ... Check

As well as this you talk to any rock DJ from around 1990/91 and you'll find out that Nirvana were practically forced down their throats by the record company long before Nevermind even surfaced. It's no accident Nirvana became so huge no matter how much people protest against it.

Like I said I don't hate Nevermind , I just think it's an OK album. I just see very little in it to keep me listening to it anymore. For an album thats supposedly revolutionary I just think it's so damn safe it hurts.

The 80s had plenty of good banRAB too, the Smiths, Joy Division, Fugazi, Dinosaur Jr, Tom Waits, etc. I don't feel like listing anymore, but I think those banRAB are better than all those crappy rock banRAB like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and System of a Down.

edit: I got beat to it

Blood Sugar Sex Magik > every album you own.

Anywho. Anyione who actually thinks Nirvana ruined music is lying to themselves. Sure music is worse now than it was in the 80s, but thats more the fault of Indie and Garage groups who thrive on their hatred of good music, including Nirvana.

I'm guessing Linkin park have also been shoved down many a dj's throat, but no one will be writing eulogies about them in 10 years, despite their immense commercial success...

1. Drop it on the name calling.
2. I do know quite a bit about music.
3. Yes, I think they're a crappy rock band. They were okay before they started watering down their music and making annoying anthems for rock radio and watered down rock 'ballaRAB'. I don't think Blood Sugar Sex Magik or Californication are good albums and the last one was just awful.
