After seeing someone else mention it i will add a topic...

Who else has seen this?

It was the biggest ever Russian film made, its based on a set of books by the same name.
Its sci-fi with fantasy and horror and thriller all mixed in.

good v evil, day v night.

It's dark and gothic and intense

The european version is coming soon I think, its dubbed and slightly shorter than the original but still definatly worth watching.

Trailer here

I loved it!! I saw it in the cinema in September. I hope they release the full length, non dubbed version on DVD.

It will be interesting to see DayWatch. It's not often we see a Good vs. Evil movie from the 'evil' point of view.

Im hoping they release a directors cut version, as I know there has been a bit cut out for the european release, I think the soundtrack is different as well, though I did like the soundtrack a lot

and love feeder's shattered anyway

There's an arm cutting scene that may well get edited a little. The end title music (certainly on the "Russian" version) is one of the most appalling (and misjudged use of) pieces of music I've ever heard.
I love its twisted sensibility, though. There's a nice twist and lots of little details that will reward repeat viewings.
You can absolutely tell it's the first of three - there's lots of characters in the background who you just know are going to be important later on.

i got it on dvd - region 5 though. its unbelievably awesome, if a bit confusing, til you suss it out! The opening scene is stunning, on that bridge! WOW!

I heard also, that the last 2 books were being made into 1 film, is this true as i think Daywatch is out in russia already. (or not far off)

From what I know, the last two books will be made into two seperate films, but the third of the series will be filmed in English as the rights were snapped up by Hollywood.

The good news is that Daywatch has been released on DVD in Russia. The bad news however is that there are no English subtitles

NO! NO! NO!!!! Why, Why, WHY does bloody hollywood have to do this, everytime.

i assume they will add subtitles for the UK release, surely???

I missed Night Watch in the cinema and was gutted so I will now have to wait untill the 24th of April when it is released on DVD to watch it!
I am sure I read that Daywatch is due to be to be realesed in the summer and the trailer for it is already out!

It's Fox who have the rights to this and the third of the film is in pre-production under the name of 'Dusk Watch'. However, the director of the first two, Timur Bekmambetov, will be directing it, which is some small consolation as Fox could have insisted on an American director. Could you imagine it being directed by the likes of McG?

I hope so! I am not too keen on dubbed films and watch the original with subtitles whenever possible. However, in the last few years, it seems that very few foreign films are released with a dub, so I guess Day Watch will be released with subtitles. I have heard a rumour that it might be released in the summer but nothing definite yet.

Ive seen it on DVD not at the flicks, you could turn the dubbing off and watch in russian with subtitles from the main menue I think.

I know the arm cutting scene you mean, I dont think that has been cut, it was pretty graphic

The end threw me a little with the sudden battle on the rooftop, and people disapeared and then reapered.....its a film I feel I am going to watch a few times and each time I will pick something else up.

We went to see Night Watch at the cinema last year and absolutely loved it. Cant wait for the next two installments, although am a little bummed Hollywood bought the rights (although not totally surprised!). Glad they have the same director on board at least.
