Nexus One Vs. HTC Desire

I'm looking to go Android (as a back up phone at the very least).

The N1 and the Desire are about the same price in my area 500-550 all in.

The Desire has the hardware buttons and optical trackball and will be new from the store, but the N1 will get the updates and somewhat used. Other than this they seem to be pretty equal.

Which one do you think I should get?
 
Depends what and who you are. If you're an Android enthusiast, who likes to discover, explore, configure, push your phone and your OS to the max, or just general geek, the Nexus One is for you.

If you think you're more of an average phone user, where convenience seems more of a priority, the Desire might be better for you.

They are twins but but each has distinct strong advantages and traits over each other.
