I bought an unlocked Google Nexus One phone, but I do not want to insert my SIM card because I heard ATT detects it as a smartphone and adds a $30 a month data plan. I specifically bought the unlocked model to avoid the data plan, and I will be only using WiFi data seeing as I am living on a college campus that has campus-wide wifi internet. I also don't need SMS texting seeing as I do all my texting through google voice. Is there any way to disable the data plan by a star key combination on the phone or by calling AT&T? They seem to imply a mandatory $30 per month data plan that I WILL NOT HAVE ANY USE FOR.
