Nextel / Sprint

hello!!

Please understand the technology and the reasons for a merger before you simply try and make guesses about the products and whether it's feasible.

For both companies the walkie talkie features don't use the same network as the cellular or standard voice features. IDEN is a patent that Motorola and Qualcomm own that Nextel uses for thier PTT feature. Sprint uses CDMA for thier phone service but VOIP for their walkie talkie. Technically they PTT features work independant on each network so while they wouldn't use both on each in a merged situation uses one or the other might not be as big a hurdle as you might think.

A merger works well because of the clientell each carrier has, Nextel mostly large business and blue collar, Sprint more mainstream, possible younger groups because of the gaming features on phones. Combined they bring two or three very large masses of subscribers all with different needs that both companies offer in some fashion. Combined nearly 40M large would make for a strong subscriber base.

are you retarted? sprint is deffinetly not the largest, hell, with sprint and nextel merged, they still only come in 3rd place....
behind,
in first, the new cingular
and second, verizon

acutally he is correct, sprint is currently 3rd and nextel is 5th and even combined nextel and sprint are still third behind verizion for second and cingular/att in first. the paper was incorrect, do take it personally it seems like there are no longer reports that actually check facts anymore, they just print whatever the fck they want

I can't believe those dumb ass newspapers either...

Here is what is printed on the NEXTEL Website regarding the merger:

"Sprint and Nextel currently have a combined total equity value of approximately $70 billion and serve more than 35 million wireless subscribers on their networks and 5 million additional subscribers through affiliates and partners. The two companies, along with their affiliates and partners, operate networks that directly cover nearly 262 million people, more of the U.S. population than any other carrier."

So, as you can see their website on the merger makes the claim to be the largest carrier!

no what they are claiming is their coverage area covers the largest population of any carrier, that does not mean that all of those people currently subscribe to either company but maybe they will in the future which could push them ahead of the other two companies

this is true it is not like any of us can do anything about it, we will just wait and see if this works out in the end. I think that in the end after all of the bull**** it will be a good thing.
