Next Generation Ford Police Cars?

After 2011 Ford will end the production of the Crown Victoria and shut down the St Thomas Ontario assembly plant. This kind of leaves our police forces in a bind - where to get their new cop cruisers from? I recently read an article where Ford was considering coming up with a police version of the new Taurus, sounds fine. Ford would be stupid to allow themselves to lose the police car market.

One of the reasons the police liked the Crown Victoria because it's a large rear wheel drive, body on frame car, and it can handle the abuse the police put it through. In this article, it stated that some police forces didn't like the Impala or the Chargers because they were either too small and there was not enough interior room for all of their equipment. Other complaints were that because these cars are uni-body that if involved in an accident or officers had to use them to ram a suspect vehicle off the road that they were easily damaged and difficult and expensive to repair.

So how about the new Taurus, will it make a good cop car? Perhaps the all wheel drive version would suit a police purpose vehicle? Maybe Ford can drop a police version on a full frame giving it the strength and durability that the police need? What are your thoughts? After the Crown Victoria's are gone, what do you think would make a great cop car? Perhaps Ford should just continue to build only police Crown Victoria's?
