A 8000-kg tow truck pulls a 3000-kg car horizontally into a garage. If the motor of the tow truck exerts a forward thrust on the truck of 800 N, what is the tension in the cable connecting the truck to the car? (neglect any forces of friction)
 
1) determine the acceleration of the system

a = net force / total mass
a = 800/11000
a = 4/55

2) draw free-body diagram for the car

the tension force is the only horizontal force acting on it

3) apply Newton's second law

F = ma
T = 3000(4/55)
T = 2400/11
