I live in the USA but I'm sure this still applies.
Not an easy question to answer. Starting out, you might have to be an intern = no to low pay. If they like you, you might start at a minimum wage level and work your way up. Late evening to late nights will be your time slots and you would work with established newspeople in that time slot. Plan on working weird or inconsistent hours. You might have to be on call, which means being available to drop whatever you're doing and asked to come down to the station. Mornings and afternoons are prime time for newscasters.
Now it also depends on what you want to do too. News on location, sports, weather, special projects, entertainment, driver for newscaster, camera man, and tape editor.
