Hi there,
I've just been browsing these pages after my GP told me that she feels I may be suffering from acid reflux related breathing problems.
Basically I have a persistant dry cough throughout the day and the only time it doesn't bother me is if I am very distracted! Naturally until today it's been causing me anxiety because I had no idea what the problem was but it does seem that maybe this is the issue.
What I'm hoping is that somebody on these message boarRAB can tell me if, based on their own experience, they feel the diagnosis seems fair? It seems that alot of boxes are being ticked but if you could take the time to read some of my symptoms and let me know what you think I would be hugely grateful!
For the last 18months I have suffered from shortness of breath, heart palpatations and chest pains which were primarily my main cause for concern. After extensive testing and meeting with doctors and some severe panic attacks the conclusion was that 'there's nothing wrong with you' and that I would just have to learn to live with these things. Then, about 3 months ago I started to get this discomfort in my chest, really in the centre of my chest, not in my throat like some people on the forums have said. I felt a constant need to try and cough something up (almost like I was beginning to develop a dry cough) but simply hasn't gone away and to be honest hasn't got markably worse!
So when I finally went the doctors today she surprisingly suggested that it might be acid reflux. Naturally this hadn't occured to me as it is a problem with my lungs not my stomach as I got get heartburn regularly at all. After browsing through this site it seems that perhaps you can still suffer like this with no stomach pain. But I guess I am slightly sceptical about whether or not I should trust that this is my problem. What do people think?
I used to smoke but haven't for over 6 months and I drink once a month. I'm also a vegetarian of 14 years so other peoples meat related issues don't apply to me.
Is it quite likely acid relux/gerd/lpr or something is my problem and if so...what next? should I get majorly worried? Is these going to dramatically affect my life?
I'm just a bit scared/confused and looking for advice really!
Thanks for taking the time to read through my post
