Hello everyone. My name is Kristin and I am a 37 year old mom of 4 with 3 failed back surgeries. One in 2002 and two this year. My last surgery was on July 2. The last two surgeries were done basically because of a ruptured disc. The the very last one was mainly scar tissue. My neurosurg said the scar tissue was teathered to the S1 nerve and the dura. He says there is nothing that can be done to halt the scar tissue from returning. The thought of repeated surgeries to strip the scar tissue is incredibly depressing. I am on psych meRAB just to keep my from ending it all. I just can't imagine living my life like this. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kristin

Hi Kristin. I'm so sorry for all your pain and suffering. Many of us are living with the same fate. However, I do have a couple of suggestions for you that might help.

First of all, surgery to remove scar tissue usually just generates more scar tissue. But there is something you can do that will help and it's simple. Walk. Start a walking program. Go small distances slowly to start and gradually build distance first and then speed. Walking is the best way to keep scar tissue (assuming your surgery was lower lurabar) loosened. While it may not take away all the pain, it can be very helpful.

Secondly, there are psychologists who specialize in chronic pain and since your depression seems to be leading you into a bad direction, this can also help you a lot.

Also, there are injections that can keep the inflammation down, tho those should be done no more than 3 times in a year.

I hope that some of this will benefit you...and I hope you will continue to post here where you can make frienRAB and get the support you need.

Hi Kristin,
Just wanted to check in on you and see how you are doing.
Have you started walking yet as Carol suggested?
Still praying for you!

Hello Kristen,

Welcome to the board. Sorry for the reason you found us, but, hopefully, you will find support here from people who understand what you are going through.

Do you know if you have arachnoiditis. When the doctor was talking about scar tissue, did he use that term?

Please tell us a little more about your specific situation. Did you have a fusion? How does this affect your life--like, how mobile are you, etc??

Looking forward to getting to know you.
