I have a couple questions that I'm sure most people on here know, but I'm new and dont sooo...

1. What does spl stand for and what exactly is it? (Not looking for all the different kinds)

2. How do you use the terminal emulator, meaning actually typing stuff into it? Also I'm thinking once I know that I will know how to put something in after i am in recovery mode and then go to console and have the same problem... don't know how to type lol

3. Does anyone know where there are some theads that are for people just getting into their phone and do not know all the technical language yet? I can't seem to find guides that are for new users.

Thanks for whoever feels like helping! And if you're feeling really generous you can im me

1.the spl is the bootloader and its used mainly for debugging
2.terminal is very versitle, u can do almost anything in it if you are good in linux, please see this for more info http://linux.org.mt/article/terminal
3.i dont know of any guides other than what comes with the phone

1. i forget what spl stands for, but it pretty much is what let's you flash roms. i know you didn't ask for types, but i'd say to go ahead and get haykuro's/danger/death spl. not sure about the differences, but it's the best.

2. terminal emulator is just like command prompt on your computer. i don't know how to code anything, but i get by. you should be able to pick up commands as you go, like how to flash a new recovery, use switchrom, etc. don't worry if you can't think of commands off the top of your head.

3. the only thread i can think of is lazy's ac post.

idk if that's exactly what you're looking for, but it's definitely a good start.

Just so people know... no terminal will work with shapewriter lol That is why I wanted to know how to put text in lol... use the stock would be the answer

SPL stands for Secondary Program Loader. It's the first major thing to load when you power up your Android phone. It then loads Android, or does other things like installs/updates a new OS. It's a bit like a BIOS on a PC that then tells Windows or Linux to go and load once it's detected and checked the memory and drives.

I used to be a lecturer in computing until a few years ago. There was even a protest by students when I left. But, I had been offered twice as much money doing something else... so I had to move on.

well now I feel honored. we could have used you At the pathetic college I went to but I'm sure the money would be even worse

I was wondering though, is amaon RA considered an spl?

The purpose of the recovery is to avoid using adb by accessing all features directly from the menu.
