Hi Everyone,Im new on here so hello to you all:wave:
heres` my story try and make it short, please bear with me as I find it hard to put things in worRAB sometimes.
Well I started drinking when I was about 13,mainly socially my frienRAB were all older than me.I left home at 17 got my own place and my drinking increased to everyday either in the home or pub.I was drinking more and more and stronger stuff like really strong lager like Special Brew or Tennants.I mixed with a lot of other drinkers weed smokers in the area I lived.I moved to another area at the age of 30,thought I have fresh start. My drinking got worse was drinking day and night now. Also id started taking speed everyday too and sometimes E`s.
One night I was drunk as usual,a friend offered me a sip of his Methadone linctus so I thought what the hell,Id never had it before or any other Opiates,I loved it.
Ended up having Methadone linctus daily and getting it free from drug centre.
Then another firend offered me a bit of methadone Injectable, well that was it I was totally hooked.
Im 40 yrs old now so have been on methadone for about 8yrs.Last year I was on 100ml in 2 x 50ml injectable ampoules a day.I had to go in hospital for removal of a tumour on my neck (it was benign thank the lord).Whilst waiting for the surgery I managed to wean myself down to 5ml IV daily. In the last year ive slowly crept up again and Im now on 20ml IV,I also take 40-50mg of valium a day.
The time has come now to stop taking this crap,I want to wean myself off it,could anyone give me any advice on how to do this at home,as there is a huge waiting list for detox clinics here and I can`t afford to pay privately.I want to stop the Methadone first then the Valium, would I be able to wean off Methadone with the aid of Valium?Whats the best way to do this please help,Im so fed up of taking it,I believe its also the cause of my low Thyroid, want to feel normal again.
I managed to stop drinking,I just occaisonally have a drink if i go out,but have to be really careful as it awakens a sleeping giant, last time I had a drink was at a gig in Feb.
Sorry its such a long post, bet ive bored you to death;)
Any advice will be very much appreciated, thanks:)

I managed to stop drinking, but Im on Methadone im sick of taking it really got to stop, would you advice setting a date to start tapering off or just go for it tomorrow.

I don't know how long you have been on methadone or the MG. you are on....So if it were me, I wouldn't just stop cold turkey as I have read there can be some real bad withdrawal effects. I have never been on methadone so I am in no way an expert, just going on the facts I have read about it because I know some people who are on it.

I would talk to your doctor or counselor and then start a tapering process. It may take a while to taper off of it but by tapering off of methadone you will reduce (possibly not eliminate) but reduce your withdrawal symptoms and the severity of them. I have a friend who's sister has been clean from methadone for 11 months so I KNOW it's possible. It all determines on how BAD you want to get clean and how determined you are. YOU CAN DO THIS!! I don't even know you but...I have FAITH in you!!! God Bless You!!! I'll be praying for you:)

hi,

After being addicted to vicodin for years, I went into a methadone maintenance program for five years...started at 30 mgs/day and by the end of it, I was at 135 mgs./day. I know it's different for everyone, and I'm not telling you my experience to dissuade you from stopping it, but to just tell you the facts of what I went through. It took three months at a rehab facility (and 20K) to wean me down to zero mgs., and then the withdrawals hit...and I mean hit. I had someone stay with me at the beginning...I couldn't drive (I took cabs for about a month after). People don't believe me when I say I didn't sleep for nine days and nights, but it's true; I had auditory and visual hallucinations, it felt as if there were a thousand burablebees in my lips...the body tingling was bizarre, my whole body vibrated...the restless legs alone were enough to drive me crazy, and my intestines were a mess. The initial physical slam lasted about two weeks, but it took a full year for the residual tingling to finally leave my body. It's been 17 months since I took my last methadone and I still am dealing with chronic insomnia and a messed up intestinal tract. Sleeping still only comes in 30-40 minute increments with long perioRAB of being awake inbetween. Methadone withdrawal puts a lot of stress on your body, and you have to be very careful of your nutrition. I am now dealing with adrenal fatigue as a result of the physical strain and drain of the prolonged withdrawals.

You might ask if it was worth it, and yes, it was...to no longer be a slave to a chemical is the best thing I ever did for myself, but it was hard...the hardest thing I've ever done. In hinRABight, I might have looked into going on suboxone after getting down to 30 mgs. of methadone but withdrawals are something you will have to face at sometime if you chose to go off of it.

Good luck to you...
