Newbie! Gym Fitness & Health questions....?

Hello everyone! I'm just seeking some information about how I should go about my fitness routine; I've never joined a gym in my life and so far this is my first week here. From what I've read around frequenting many different sites. There's a complex regiment many people go through to help themselves get fit and stay fit more effectively. I'm not in tune with any of these rituals, so to speak. =\

I have a few questions regarding protein consumption and workout routines; basically I weigh anywhere between 210-230 lbs, it's not that great, I know; however, compared to the beginning of the year, I weighed in at the mid 260s, I managed to lose about 40 pounds or so just from walking at least an hour a day on most days or riding my bike as well as changing an unhealthy diet around to better accommodate this. Anyways, what I wanted to ask:

1) I'm trying to burn this sagging belly fat and the lipids around my chest area; so I'm doing cardio; is it a good idea to consume protein-rich beverages or foods before working out? Is it a good idea to consume that type of nutrient, period, for cardio work out? Or is it strictly for muscle building.

2) I'm also trying to build muscle mass, at least I'd like to once I lost a bit of the fat that still plagues my body. However, when I first tried the weights, I noticed that I had an exponentially difficult time doing most type of weight workouts. While people around my size, or slightly smaller in mass could lift 4 to 5 times more than I could. Does this mean my body has to adjust slowly to weight lifting? If so, what would be a good "training wheel" type of workouts to do in the weight room? I hope that isn't too ambiguous answer. I just want to build some muscles on my arms and chest/stomach first.

3) This is similar to number 1; Should I get in a lot of protein before workouts, if so, how much? The product measures serving size by 1 to 2 scoops; 1 scoop giving 52% of my Daily Value for Protein, while 2 doubles that. Is it only good to do around 2 scoops after a strenuous workout? I know these seem like rather simple and dubious questions, but really, I have no experience at all taking this sort of stuff, and I don't want to squander it because it's rather costly to buy.

4) I hear that it's good to eat at least 4-6 times a day to maintain your energy. At least 2-4 snacks between the 3 most important meals of the day. What are some healthy snack options to choose from that is low on bad calories and fat. But high on good fat/calories and nutrients? Please don't suggest Kidney beans! There are just some things I can't force myself to eat, lol.

I've been overweight, even obese almost my entire life. It's been my life long dream since I hit around the age of 10 to lose this; now almost 10 and a half years later, I'm setting out on that long-term goal. It's more than just about looking good, it's about feeling better and getting my life back on track. My physical disposition has left me with a great deal of self-esteem issues as well as chronic phobias. It's gotten a little better over time as I started being productive with my weight issues, but I want it eradicated completely from my mind. I want the confidence to walk up to people without often having to feel if I'm being judged or not by strangers because of my appearance, it's so beckoning and it holds me back, not just mentally, but in life.

I lost all my friends, my social life has been non-existent for years, I haven't gotten a job because of my extreme fear of being around other people and not feeling like "one of them" or messing up and being judged for it. It's made me so introverted I more often than not can't convey the message across to someone the way I would like to in my mind. Basically, I just want my life back. I know the weight isn't entirely the problem to all these issues; make no mistake, though, but it's a big contributor to it.

I'm sorry that it's long! You can just read the 4 questions and skip the melodramatic "life story", if you so choose.
