Newbie fishermen, questions about not hurting fish, and other stuff (Quite a bit)?

I been doing some reading up on fishing, because I live out in the country and figure might as well pick it up. I don't want to kill the fish, I will be releasing them all back. I don't want to kill them from my ignorance either O.o. So here is the questions..

1. I never took a fishing hook out in my life, I get the concept but I am wondering if I should use non-barbed fishing hooks?

2. I read that its best not to take the "Slime" off a fish because it will get disease. Will these special fishing gloves they got keep the slime on them? Or should I get a fish grabber, I don't wanna throw em back in knowing they gonna die soon anyway heh.

3. I am not quite sure what I would do should I bring in a rather large cat fish (See above question). I rather not get stung, and I rather not get bit. I don't know one fish from another other than cat fish has whiskers! Anyway whats best way for me to be able to handle said situation in timely quick manner?

Basically for a Noobie that wants to not get stung/bit/barbed nor kill the fish through ignorance or mishandling, should I get a pair of the gloves, a fish gripper. I already got needle nose pliers, so there is that at least.
