New Vizio TV gadgets won't play on my sony surround sound?

Just got a new TV and it is a Vizio w/ internet. When I try to play Pandora, it only plays thru the TV not the surround sound. When not using gadgets the surround sound works find though. Are gadgets just not compatible with surround sound or do I need something else? Thanks so much in advance!
