I bought some new tropical fish yesterday, some neon fish with the red stripe all the way down the body, and some other fish which I yet need to identify.
The unidentified fish (well, a few of them) seem either the hover along the bottom of the tank or hover in the middle behind leaves (at the back).
The neons on the other hand, are swimming fine with the odd jerky movements. These jerky movements worry me but some say this is normal swimming behaviour for these fish.
I see know signs of disease, yet.
Is this a case of New Tank Syndrome?
Because I know some coldwater fish have this problem but this is my first time with tropical.
Ammonia is at 0ppm; Nitrites at 0ppm; Nitrates at 5ppm; and pH is smack bang on 7.0. The heater is set at 27C (which I think is around 78-81F).
From a quick glance, they seem to be eating okay. Sometimes they spit the food out, but they will end up re-eating it.
Maybe they are just stressed?
Any information and guidance would be helpful,
Thankyou;
Dan
