Hi there I am new to photography and was wanting to get some advice to which camera is better..... the Canon 400D or the Canon Rebel xt or xti?

Or if you have any suggestions on another camera you think is better around that price range $400-$600 or even cheaper if you know it works awesome!

Or let me know if you have any advise to a new photographer, like lenses or anything that you have found to be useful :)

Let me know what has worked best with you or which camera u use :) I would appreciate any suggestions on software too if you know of any good ones also.

This may not be what you expect, but a beginning photographer will find learning photography will require taking a class or two in photography using a 35 mm SLR ... you can find good used Nikon or Canon 35 mm SLRs with standard zoom lens on craigslist for under $200. Once you have learned how to use the camera well and have good shooting habits, when you buy your new DSLR (that matches the 35 mm you buy), all the skills are transferable.

That said, here is an excellent entry level camera.

I use three DSLR's a D200, D300 and D3. Each have performed well over the years I have been shooting with digital cameras

If you are serious about learning photography I would start with a basic camera like the Mamiya RB67 or Nikon FG with a normal prime lens.

The RB67 for about $200 and the Nikon FG under $100. Both are well-built, grand picture takers and a great way to learn photography.

Both are good cameras. i perfer my nikon verus a Canon. But thats always a toss up.. its all by preference. try www.DPreview.com. they helped me a lot!!!!
