new to citalopram

Hi there,
I just started Citalopram for my anxiety, and I am wondering if anyone has had the same side effects as I am experiencing now? I have only been on it for 5 days now, but I feel very sleepy, have Diarrhea, and my senses are very heightened. Any help anyone may have I would really appreciate it.

I never had diarrhea, but loose stools can be a temporary side effect I think. I definitely had feeling sleepy!!The first day I took it I noticed I could not stop yawning.It got better after a while,but I generally felt a little sleepy on it most of the time.
Not really sure what you mean by heightened senses?

Most side effects will dissipate after your body adjusts to the medication.I started feeling pretty good on it after about 4-6 weeks.
 
Yes. Been there, done that.

When I first started Citalopram (about 2 years ago) I was on and off the toilet constantly, had a dull appetite, was tired and disoriented quite often and my heightened sense happened to be my eyes -- I had trouble focusing and was particularly sensitive to bright light, mostly outdoor light. I had a heck of a time driving on a sunny day. I felt like :dizzy:

There were some days, until my body got used to the drug, that I really shouldn't have even been behind the wheel of a car. I would get so disoriented that I couldn't focus on everyday things. However, once my body got used to it, it literally saved me. It's made a huge difference in my life because I was a complete mess with anxiety and panic attacks. So bad that I ended up in the emergency room because I couldn't function and I couldn't breathe. They gave me a dose of Ativan (through an IV) and within minutes I was fine after a whole day of panic.

I'm still prescribed Ativan, but I don't need it as often as I used to, thanks to the Citalopram.
