I have never had acid reflux, GERD or heartburn. Ever. However, a few weeks ago, I had a UTI and, instead of getting antibiotics, I tried a natural remedy of drinking Baking Soda and warm water 2 times per day for 4 days. It cured my UTI but now I have heartburn all the time! I have read that Baking Soda can actually treat heartburn but I am wondering if it messed with my stomach acid and caused me to actually have heartburn instead.

Any help out there?

Thanks!

Has nothing to do with what was eaten. What you have done with baking soda is go too far. You actually consumed stomach acid, that is, the baking soda reacted chemically with your stomach acid and eliminated it. Therefore, your body realized it had less acid, too much less actually, and overreated to fill the void (equilibrium process). So by getting rid of HCl in your stomach, your body must replenish it, and often times it overproduces. Ease back on the baking soda.
