New TMNT Toon Direction decided (Update: Early designs revealed)

I haven't really forgotten about them. But there really isn't a lot of material they can use, once you eliminate what they can't:

1) Stories involving teen Shadow or Gabrielle (The werewolf stuff)
2) Stories involving the vol. 4 status quo (the Don goes to space/underwater bits).
3) The Rat King "origin" story (given that he has a definite origin here, which is also one of the reasons why I think the Splinter segment of City at War really wouldn't work here)
4) Almost everything related to the "Worms of Madness" story (drastically different Shredder).
5) Stories involving the extended Yoshi or Oroku families (they don't exist here)
6) Stories that would be difficult to fit into continuity (Rock of Ages; Circle of Darkness; stories featuring Cha Ocho, the Future Turtles, or Gozei Hattori; The Tales of April story; the City at War sequel)

You're left with about twenty issues. Eliminate those that really aren't any good--both Moo Mesa stories, the Casey Jones "origin" story--and you're left with about fifteen stand-alone stories which yeah, might be perfectly adaptable, and some which could arguably make very good episodes. However, given the many, many stories that can be told featuring characters from this incarnation of the turtles, and an arguable need for those stories to be told--I'd really like to know more about the four other Ninja Tribunal acolytes, for one--the need for yet more adaptations becomes suspect.

Even still, I remember something they said in an episode of Pinky and the Brain that really stuck with me.

"There's only supposed to be Yin and Yang! There isn't supposed to be a 'Larry.'"

In other words, throwing a new member in a team can ruin group dynamic.

I'm very disappointed that the City at War adaption was so condensed. I was hoping to see other shorter segments from that arc scattered around the rest of the series.

But hey, if none of the episodes are about the Turtles being second or third in their own show, getting involved with random alien battles (like in the beginning of season 4) I'm okay with whatever they do. I mean, that Adlintian thing just kept coming.

Heck, yes--I miss the sence of normalcy she (and sometimes Casey) provide.

The same could be said of TMNT 2k3, at least initially. By the time the first season ended, only four females of note had been introduced: April (regular); Angel (one-shot); Quarry/Sydney (assumed male during most of her appearance; appeared as female for less than three minutes); and Abigail Finn (one-shot). Fast Forward, in comparison, had three female characters of note: Starlee, which you mentioned (recurring); Viral (recurring, and killed at the end of the season); and Starlee's mom (one-shot, and the less said about her, the better). Looks about equal to me, the only difference being that TMNT 2003 had four more seasons to add female characters to its cast, while Fast Forward just had the one.

Actually, her last appearance was later on in Turtle X-Tinction, although she did little of note there, save planning to take Cody out to the movies and getting knocked out by Turtle X.

Quick question, a while ago Michaelangelo's VA listed a bunch of other names who are going to be in this season, I believe one of them was Shredder (I assume flashback), Casey, April, but what were the other voices?

Who is Bishop's voice actor? And Cody's? Were they listed under the new season?

You never know. The streamlined "New Batman Adventures" looked better than the original B:TAS. Easier-to-draw Turtles may lead to more fluid animation as a result.

And thank....goodness....for no stupid gimmicks like "Turtle Babies."

1) Pretty good. Definently acceptable. But Eric Stuart (or someone that sounds just like him) leading the song just about kills it for me. I could live with it but I'm not going to vote for it. Despite Stuart, it is catchy.

2) NEVER, EVER, EVER. But I bet this whole thing is all a ruse adn this is what they're going to use. I can't help but notice this was the one the characters were getting into the most in the commerical. Influencing the vote perhaps?

3) Better than 2. When the guys come in it goes nice places but as a theme song it just doesn't feel right. It'd be the kind of thing to throw in a "music inspired by the show" CD but not a theme song.

4) Daft Punkish for sure but only in the most generic way possible. It has it's moments but again, not a good choice for a theme song.

5) Definently the most sensible choice. It's catchy and it even throws in a little homage to the first 2K3 at the end. Which is a nice tie in. And man it's hard not to vote for something that says "back to the sewers" and "back by popular demand". Though repeating "Back to the sewers" over and over and over got annoying it's still better than hearing Stuart.

6) Very interesting stuff but again not the best choice for a theme song. It'd be my 2nd choice though. It'd be cool to have a show with this kind of opening.

I vote for 5. To me it was the natural choice. It feels right. I might have liked the first one more if it had better singing.

I'm more concerned about the humans. I thought April and Casey looked ok in the one FF episode they were in, so I hope this new art style doesn't change them too much either.

Man...I'm actually getting pretty excited knowing that the TMNT are finally returning home! I hope the quality of the writing though stays up to the standards that we're used to, I can't wait to see where they take this.

This is what I wanted to see all along. Continue what you're doing. no silly premise or Gimicks. Blend past events of FF into the storyline, and hopefully make it as dark as the first series was. FF was too light, and was 99% filler episodes. It was like they were trying to be the old TMNT series, but just became the worst episodes of season 3.

I don't like the idea they'll be stylized (since I detest how triangular they looked in FF) but if it means they have the budget to make the series, I can't complain.

Theme songs 1,4,5, are all okay if not tollerable.
6 sounds like background music and 2 gets an honorable mention for invoking memories of the 80's theme but subjecting me to yet another rap which invokes memories of the DBGT dub theme. 3 sounds like it shound be at the end of a movie.

Sheesh, when I saw the Mii avatars I thought it was a gag posting.

It looks...promising for now, but it's really a question of what Mr. Murphy isn't allowed to say...like what kind of gimmick will be shoehorned into what sounds like a pretty normal TMNT pitch.

The good news is that series continuity has been guaranteed, and that Casey and April should be back in the spotlight. The bad news: they're going to streamline the animation even more than Fast Forward? How much cheaper can it get?
