New T5 Problem!

OK, I thought I'd experienced just about every T5 problem there was but I now have a new one. Following my last crash and subsequent reinstallation of software, I realised today that I had forgotten to reinstall the driver for my Palm universal wireless keyboard. When I did reinstall it, on running it I got a fata exception and device reset (initiated by CrashPro). I downloaded the latest driver from the Palm site and got the same problem. Crash Pro doesn't give me any clues and I'm completely perplexed because my T5 used to run this software with no problem.

Any thoughts anyone?
 
Thanks for the advice Mooseman. As far as I can see there are only two downloads of the keyboard driver on the P1 website; one for Palm and one for Pocket PC. I've tried downloading again and reinstalling - no joy. I tried deleting a couple of recently installed appps off my Palm which I thought might be causing a problem. Still no joy. I tried doing a warm reset and then running the keyboard software. Still the same thing - Fatal Exception.
This is nuts! I used to be able to run this software with no trouble at all.
 
It might be down to the order of installing - did you install stuff *after* installing the keyboard driver last time and install it *before* this time????

I would suggest a hard reset and install things one at a time to see what, if anything, breaks. Also, do the keyboard early as installing it late caused a problem...

I've attached the driver that I'm using that's known good on my T5. If it doesn't work on yours - then some new conflict has been created by some software.

And that will be a process similar to ptootill noted.
 
Thanks Mooseman, but it's the same driver I already have. Interestingly I spent some time this morning reading through the forum on Palm's own website and... ...yep. Lots and lots of entries from people with the same problem. Seems this has been a known problem for some time. Several people claim to have fixed the problem by doing a hard reset and then reinstalling the keyboard driver ahead of other things. Unfortunately, I've spent way too much time on this unreliable device lately to consider going through all that again.
I think I'll bide my time until I have enough money to ditch the problematic T5 and buy something better...
...a notepad and pen spring to mind.
 
It might be possible that installing the driver ahead of everything else might have some fix....

I think though that you could do the same thing by deleting the Saved_Preference.prc file on your T5.

Doing so causes the T5 to forget that a keyboard wasn't installed initially and sets the preferences for each program as it "loads" for the first time.

But, this also deletes the registration numbers for most of your additional software that's loaded by the Quick Installer.

I have found though that sometimes - the Saved Preferences has to be deleted.

If you have applied the T5 update to your device and just did a restore per the Palm instructions.....I'd do the delete as outlined.

The non-volatile memory of the T5 is causing some unique issues that never occurred.

But then again maybe pen and paper is the way to go.....life was definitely simpler then. :)
 
I want to record just how awful the T5 has been. I have had a T5 for 7 months. Started with innumerable soft resets. Days spent trying to synchronise. Every new computer a further set of problems (even told to update my bios on a fresh Sony Vaio by the palm website). Bluetooth connectivity a nightmare. Web browsing took weeks to make work. Then the machine froze with no combination of resets achieving anything. Returned to Palm and replacment unit stopped responding to screen input in under 24 hours. Further days wasted trying to resuscitate then pointless emails from palm telling me how to do a hard reset (like I can't read the instructions!). Then emails telling me they won't exchange the second unit because I have not registered the unit for repair, although the website now directs me to a fixed fee repair rather than a warranty option.
This is my third (fourth if you include the duff replacement) PDA, the others being a handspring visor and an ACER n60; all have failed inside a year and all have used more time than they have saved me. I am off to buy a filofax and a pencil: I have had enough.
