There have been many posts about it, including artists sketches. All we know is, its gonna come out at either the end of this year or the end of next year.
All the internet rumors point to next year for a new model but of the couple dealers I've talked with, they think more 2012. Although, I haven't chatted with a dealer about that subject for a couple months. Anyone know when the dealer meeting is this year? September?
Ducati have submitted several patent applications (including a new, more upright v-twin - not L - monocoque aluminum frame etc) a couple of months ago. Given the lag time from drawing board, to mock-ups, per-production trial and so-on next year at the earliest seems more appropriate .
I am thinking 2012 but I almost wouldnt be surprised to see engine changes next year. They clearly need help in WSBK and the competition is moving quickly
+1 Anyone following the new Kawasaki? I remember when the 1098R first came out with real traction control (ok, not that long ago I know...) which was cool because no other bike had it. Now everyone seems to be getting it. Ducati needs new gimmicks for this next bike. Carbon frame anyone? How about some electronically controlled suspension? ABS? Fuck it, turn the multi into a superbike...
Agreed, but in a recent test, Troy Bayliss showed off and was .5 of a second faster then anyone on a Ducati at the test, let alone Haga or Fabrizio. So the bike can do it, you just gotta ride it harder.
So we'll see... Maybe it will take a bit longer for Ducati to figure it out!
Bayliss is the man. TW will attest to that but comparing him to Haga and Fabrizio is unfair to the other riders. Spies broke Nori last year and Michelle is so inconsistent...and the fact that Checa (on a privateer Duc) is beating the factory boys doesn't bode well for the home team. Maybe it's time for Ducati to hire in some fresh blood for WSBK.
On the more cynical side...isn't it funny how Checa's bike just quit at both races at Miller? He was in the lead, totally giving it to both factory boys and then...his bike stopped. I read a quote of his saying all the privateer bikes are now hooked into the factory computer systems. I wonder if Ducati is sandbagging a bit this year (and maybe next year) to lobby for more rules to favor a newer/better model they have waiting in the wings.
I hope they style the new bike, if it ever makes it out, after the Cedici. Whatever they do they need to do it fast and without the price tag now that Beemer took everyone to task for much less.
