New Sprint phone help

I have a Palm Pre and just can't deal with it anymore. If the battery and hardware on my Pre weren't so abysmal I'd love this phone- but it is and I don't. I'm finally eligible for the full Sprint upgrade and would like a new phone and would love some help.
I have no interest in any of the new 4G phones on principle. (I think the extra data charge is ridiculous considering my phone loses 3G sometimes when I'm in the middle of Manhattan- so no thanks.) I need a smart phone and use my phone primarily for internet, email and texting. I think I have it narrowed down to the Blackberry 9650 or the HTC Touch Pro 2. I know that any touchscreen phone is going to have a somewhat crappy battery- but anything has to be better than the Pre.
If anyone can help or have a better suggestion I would be very grateful.
Thanks!

Look at the battery life first. And even though it may sound silly that a big touchscreen Android phone would drain more battery than a conservative BlackBerry, I've seen it before.

The BB is a big step away from the touchscreen phones -- a welcome step, not a frightening one. But if you want the same interface as before, and a little bit of a venture into the new instead of the tried-and-true, Android might also be the way to go.

I've tried both. Love both. Which way are you leanin'?

I am still on the fence but I think I might just try out the HTC and if I hate it get the Blackberry. I know that any big touchscreen phone is going to use more battery than a non touch, but I think I'm so used to having a touchscreen it might be weird to go back. (I sometimes still try to swipe stuff on my Kindle ) Thanks for your help - I think there's no right answer I just have to pull the trigger.

Correction... sometimes something with a touchscreen uses less battery than one with a smaller non-touch one.

For what it's worth, the BB has its own swipe function too... it has a tiny trackpad that's like the trackpad on a laptop, just much smaller and more sensitive.
