New PRLs

In Cadillac current Alltel customers will become Verizon and current Verizon customers are scheduled to be sold to AT&T assuming it ever gets approved by the DOJ and the FCC. Not really that complicated.

Well, I've heard sooooo many different ways this could go. All along I figured since I was with Alltel that I would be sold to AT&T but now sounds like Verizon customers in this area are going to AT&T and I will go to Verizon.

Ahhhhhh, I get it! So Alltel is here to stay, just gonna be run by VZW! Excellent news! I was sure hoping I didn't have to switch to VZW or AT&T! Nice!

I have PRL 40051 in central utah... I kind of randomly picked that one when I activated my eris on alltel about 5 months ago and it's been perfect. 3G coverage everywherrrre....

I tried the PRL's in this thread to find that I have great service with them but absolutely NO 3G/Evdo coverage what so ever, just 1x constantly.

I know that verizon wireless plasters central utah in 3g and so does alltel.. and sprint doesnt really cover here at all, so I'm unsure of why my phone doesn't pick up 3G with those PRL's at all. I've been flipping around through the different PRL's in this thread for 2 days now... I just barely switched back to my 40051 in my room. It went from 2 bars of 1x to 3 bars of 3G after the PRL change.

I was told that alltel here in central utah (price, ut) is being divested by at&t.. I don't know what's going to happen..

As far as i can tell, i dont want to be on AT&T unless they really get the GSM network working here in central utah... cdma 3g Plasters utah in even the emptiest of places, 3G GSM is only available is parts of salt lake county and saint george/cedar city... that's about it. I'm really guessing its going to be a long while unless att turns into a hybrid cdma gsm network.

I've been with alltel since 04, I tried ATT for a year with the iphone 3G here in utah while I was living in salt lake, kept my Alltel account active and let a buddy of mine use my alltel line while I have my iphone... well, ATT service was horried, along with their customer service, they felt no remorse for having terrible coverage... yes the 3G is fast, not reliable, and you've really got to be somewhere in salt lake/provo valley to use the dang 3G

Back home in central utah, the iphone was just a brick... made a great ipod touch in airplane mode while I had 5 cooking bars of 3g on my alltel service in the middle of the desert on our offroading trips.

Can we make voice calls on the umts? If voice is going to be gsm only voice coverage is going to drop in half. Especially in places like rural Utah where they use some 75 mile extended range towers.

If you get a good signal from Alltel, you will get a good signal from AT&T. When they convert a bunch of cell sites, they also check the specs of each transmitter and bring them up to full power if, for some reason, Alltel had let it slide. Expect only improvements as that is what has happened elsewhere.
