New Plans vs. Old Plans

Hey all,

With the introduction of these new "nationwide plans," I've been a little confused about whether there are ulterior motives that CricKet has to get people off of the older plans. Perhaps I just don't know the differences, but I was hoping that someone could help me out :)

I am currently on the Unlimited 45$ plan with a 5$ credit, so I pay 40$+tx a month. Services include:

$5 Kid Discount Promotion
Data Default
Mobile Web Access
Paperless Billing
Regulatory Recovery
Toll Calls
Voice Mail, Caller ID, Call Waiting and 3 Way Calling
UNLIMITED: Picture/Video Messaging
UNLIMITED: Text to Mexico
Unlimited Long Distance
Free Unlimited Directory Assistance
Roaming Premium Extended Coverage-RU0

Now compared to the new natonwide plan, it doesn't have the "Roaming Premium Extended Coverage" or the International text.

But what's the difference between the PEC and Nationwide Roaming? Is Nationwide > PEC now? Would it be worth it to change over to the new plan and pay the 5$ for international text?

Just a note, I live and commute back/fourth to Canada every single day from Buffalo so I place calls and texts to both USA and CAnada frequently; my international text is very important to me, but being able to roam in Canada would be PHENOMENAL.

What do I do!? Haha thanks for your time!

Depending where you go in Canada, the new coverage is supposed to have some coverage in Canada. Nationwide Coverage is PEC plus the new roaming agreements Cricket has made with other carriers. You should check out the coverage map to see the new areas.

So is it worth it to change over to the new plan and pay 5$ for international texts? I live in Niagara Falls and would probably travel to Toronto. This is considered "roaming" correct? Not local?

Also, if it makes a difference, I have a Blackberry Tour that I've fully flashed over - will this affect my PRL?

the kid discount is just what they call the $5 off discount, not sure why they call it a kid discount...

as for aleemmerani's question...

it depenRAB... if your going to be in the new nationwide coverage area alot, it may be worth it to pay $5 extra for 30 minutes of roaming (that would also include going into canada, you won't get local coverage there) and also add international text. but if your not going to be in the new nationwide coverage area, then i'd stick with old cricket plan!

go onto their website and look at the coverage map, dark green is nationwide calling (or local calling, like a new extended local coverage) and light green is everywhere where you would use roaming minutes. remeraber roaming is simply minutes used off the home network, and cricket simply made their home network nationwide. but nationwide for cricket doesn't mean verizon nationwide, nationwide for cricket means they now have coverage in all 50 states. even if coverage in maine is only 5 feet into maine, they can still consider that state "covered" and call it nationwide...

just pay attention to where the roaming (light green) areas are and you should be able to come to a decent decision

i'm not 100% positive, but it's possible that the fact that you're using a flashed phone may prohibit your ability to switch to the new nationwide plans.

though it's possible that i'm wrong and you're still in the same boat that you always were...basically just unable to use the phone in AWS markets. i would check with your nearest cricket direct store to be certain. and not just at any cricket dealer...but at an actual company owned corporate cricket store.
