new phone time, tough decision ahead!

Hi everyone,

My 2 year plan with Verizon is up now pretty much and I have the new every 2 so I get 100$ off my next phone.

I would choose the Motorola Q from verizon because it looks the best for the price (w/ my 100 off). However, the provider of money for my plan (parents) won't pay extra for a data plan (would make it like 80 a month for a college student=no). Therefore, I feel like the Q is pointless as I could get a cell phone (Samsung U740 the double-flip phone) for less and might be cooler.

So this gives me another idea. My mom has a family plan through Cingular set up for my dad and grandma (who are both cell phone CLUELESS and use maybe 30 out of their 700 mins/month on the plan). So my idea was to allow my mom to put me on the family plan (she wants to, I didn't before). Then I can get the Samsung Blackjack instead and then add 15-20$ on top for a data plan through Cingular. With that, I would get to have the data plan for e-mail/internet which is what I want.

so what do you all think?
also should I wait maybe until the Blackberry Curve comes out and see if I can afford it through Cingular?

A very confused college student,

Tell us how you use the phone? What do you really need the device to do? I assume from your post email and Internet.

BTW, the Cingular BB unlimited dataplan is $29.99 a month plus a voice plan of 450 mins or more. Does not include text messaging.

Cingular also says that you will need the $39.99 PDA Connect plan for the Blackjack, however Medianet plans will also work from what I have heard.

HI jenningsk,
I am a phone expert. I have used Motorola V710, E815, V3M, HTC XV-6700 in the past. If you want a good reception phone, i recommend you should get a motorola maxx ve. I also recommend LG Env.

well cingular has a 19.99/month data plan I assumed would work w/ the blackjack.
it is only 5 mb though, but I am not sure how much that means when it comes to using my phone for e-mail and some random internet usage.
