Hi everyone -
I have lower back problems (DDD, osteoarthritis, a bulging disk, bone spurs, etc).
Lately I have started having a new pain. I don't know if it is a spasm or what --- I just know it HURTS!!!! It is aggravated when I bend over and then try to get up!!!!! I have to stay in a semi bent over position for a while till it settles down and then I keep left over pain from it.

The position of it is on my right side; kind of above and around the top of that pelvic bone. Do you have any suggestions or ANYTHING???:)

We moved recently and I am desperately searching for a Pain Management Dr. who really cares!!!!!!!

The pain in my back is NOT under control. My meRAB (Oxycontin and Lortab) definetly help, but I need better control.

Anyway, I was just wanting to make sure that my new pain was back related.

Thank you for any help!!! I really appreciate it!!!!

Hi,

It's possible that it could be a back spasm. Typically, spasms cause pain around an area that is injured in some way in order to prevent you from doing more damage. So a spasm is like a warning from your body. If it hurts to bend and/or get up, it could be a spasm that's telling you not to do that, as spasms are a protective mechanism.

I know when I get back spasms, it hurts bad across my back and I cannot bend or twist, and it's very difficult to even get up out of bed. I always end uphaving to do the log roll to get in and out of bed. (Or a twist on the log roll). Of course I can't diagnose it, only a doctor can, but with your diagnoses, it sure is possible to be spasms.

If you press into the area that hurts, does it feel rock hard? Or do you feel knots inside the area? If so, then it most likely is spasms. But the best thing to do is see a doctor. **********REMOVED*****

One thing you can try at home, see if it helps any, is to apply moist heat over the area. You can buy a moist heating pad in a pharmacy or big store with a pharmacy area. Or..you can even try these stick on heat patches. I use all of the above all the time and they do soothe the spasms somewhat while I'm wearing them.

Thank you both for responding.

Well, we moved recently and I am looking for a new back dr. I just HATE it!!!! Apparently, there are none here --- so I will have to drive 30 to 50 miles to find one. AND, I need to find one soon. I have met my out of pocket for the year and everything is paid at 100 %. I am so tired of hurting!!

Believe me, I know the benefits of the heating pad and the wraps!!!!!! I don't believe I could get by without them!!!!!

Again ---THANK YOU!!!!!!

The thing about DDD, and osteoarthritis they are usually progressive so you are going to get new aches and pains springing up as time goes by i cant say what it is but it could easily be related to your currant back problems.
