BP probably knows how much it is leaking. but they aren't going to say I dont think, given their overall PR strategy.

these estimates originated outside of BP.

non official speculation...blah blah...non official speculation... blah blah

Very solid argument there

In any case, I still believe the leak is far worse than they're letting on. I also don't think it'll be plugged by August. It could go on even into next year.

in other news, I am hearing rumblings that there may be an issue with the cap they have on the BOP now, and that a gasket may have failed.

dude

BP has released pressure data. its 4,400 PSI at the test rams, and about 2560 coming through the top of the BOP.

Yesterday there was another study that suggested that ~50k bbls/day was the estimate.

It's clearly not 5k, 15k, or 15-25k as previously estimated. I don't know if it's as high as the 200k estimate....but certain 50k+ seems more in the ball park than what BP was originally trying to suggest.

I ain't gonna get into an academic estimate of the amount of oil being released into the gulf. We, in the common vernacular, refer to this quantity as a "Shitload" of oil...
