New Mazda 3.. Should the engine be flooding?

I have a Mazda 3 that is 7 months old. It is an automatic with only 8,000 km's on it. It would not start yesterday and I had to call roadside assist. He came over and said he could smell fuel while I was trying to start it. He depressed the accelerator half way while starting and it started. He said I needed to get it looked at by the dealership. I called them today and they said it was not a fault it was because the car was only driven a few metres the time before then stopped leaving to much fuel in the engine. The evening before I pulled it to the end of the driveway, washed it, and when I pulled it back I just let it idle and did not need to press the accelerator.
Does this sound right?
