New Jeeps V.S. Old Jeeps (Handling, off-road ability, mpg, space etc.)?

What are the main differences between Older Jeeps and some of the Newer Models? I'm interested in purchasing a jeep and just want a little more information before i do. I've seen many different models and ages of jeeps, but don't really know much about them. What are the main differences in:
Handling?
Off-Road Ability?
MPG?
Space in the interior?
And anything else you feel is interesting.(to a limit)
