New Discovery Kids Toons

Here's a heads up about some new toons airing on Discovery Kids--

Those familiar with Time Warp Trio and Tutenstein on Discovery Kids should be aware that two new series have joined the line up in recent weeks. Growing Up Creepie and Grossology are currently airing weekends on the network. Both series are Canadian and are not only very entertaining, but both cleverly incorporate bits of scientific knowledge into the shows' storylines. The animation is not bad, with Grossology's very reminiscent of both The X's and 6teen. I find both of these series better than the original ones (TWT and Tutenstein, I mean) and hope more people check them out. I found only sparse mention about them on the board so far and wanted you all to be aware that they are on.

Do yourselves a favor and check them out!

I saw Growing Up Creepie last year on Comcast OnDemand (when I still had it; I really miss having OnDemand), and thought it was really cute!

But sometime last month, my older brother in Pennsylvania alerted me to Grossology over a phone call. It's one of my biggest favorite cartoons on TV right now! I thought he was referring to the books it was loosely based on, but he said that it's a Canadian action cartoon along the lines of The Incredibles, and was animated in Flash. After the phone call, I was looking it up more info on it and was pretty impressed! I also found that it was animated not with Flash, but with a Canadian Flash-like software called ToonBoom Harmony, which was also used to animate 6teen, another cool cartoon. The animation is great! Plenty of dynamic movement. It's got my kinds of character design, cute and appealing (Abby is my favorite character). The villains are also superb. I agree that Grossology needs more exposure, and I'm already spreading the word! (I hear that not only is there merchandise coming to the US, but Genius Entertainment will be releasing the show to DVD between next year and 2009, according to the report from the New York Licensing Show.)

I still miss "Kenny the Shark"; the shark was probably the funniest guy I'd seen on broadcast-TV Saturday mornings in years (or at least since they axed "The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show")...
