New C90T - Weird Engine Noise

Hello all!

I just bought a 2008 C90T, and only have about 150 miles on it. I have noticed there is a very strange noise coming from the engine at higher gears and speeds. The best way I can describe it would be a dolphin mating call, or kind of like an air compressor noise. It's a very high pitched noise in place of where the "throaty exhaust" sound should be. I have noticed that sometimes if I shift down and remain at the same speed, the engine stops making this noise. It's definitely coming from the engine, and not the pipes.

I notice it in 4th and 5th gear, from about 50mph and up.

Is this something that will go away once the bike is "broken in", or is this normal? Something I should be worried about? Other than this, the bike is a great ride.

Thanks!

Are you sure it's coming from the engine and not the drive shaft? Mine still does it when I'm at higher speeds but it's coming from the differential.

@frost: I haven't touched the air box myself, but I'll look at it tonight to see if maybe something happened to it during dealer assembly.

@AZ: I'm pretty sure it's from the engine. If I lean over the speedometer when I'm riding, I can hear the noise coming from directly below me.

I first noticed the noise in all gears and all speeds, but like I said, now only in top gears/speeds.

Is this just a bike that is happy cruising along at 45-50mph in 3rd gear? Maybe I'm just in too high of a gear for the bike. Every other bike I've ridden would only be happy at those speeds in top gear.

I'm taking the bike to the dealer on Saturday to install Lo-Jack, so I'll have them take a look at it then and keep you posted. In the mean time, any other comments are welcome as I try to figure this out!
