New Bike, new to me at least

Hello, I am new to this forum. I just acquired a 1979 Suzuki GS750L. It has sat for the past 2 years or so and still has old gas in it. Other than cleaning out the tank and the carbs, I think it will then at least be rideable. My plan then is to spend the winter rebuilding/restoring it from the bottom up. I have a couple questions:

1 - Any recommendations or suggestions for what to use or how to go about cleaning out the gastank (there is gummed up gas in the bottom) and cleaning the carbs?
2 - Under the suzuki forum, which sub-forum does a 1979 GS750L belong?
3 - Is there anywhere I can find a list of common problems and issues for a 79 GS750L?

Thanks very much!

does your tank have any rust in it or is it just old gas? honda and yamaha carb cleaner have been the best i can find including parts stores and wal-mart. if there is no rust in the tank then just use some carb cleaner and brake cleaner to flush the tank. if there is rust they have a cream coating kit at most dealerships or can order some. sorry cant help on the other 2 questions.

I have already purchased the yamaha carb cleaner. That was recommended to me by some else. As far as rust, it has minor rust in the tank. No big flakes or anything like that that I can tell. I have never heard of the cream coating thing though. I will have to check that out.
Are there any other forums, or websites to check for info on bike rebuilds, or looking for common problems on certain models??

Welcome, Albert. Just keep it under the general Suzuki forum, or for more common topics, the Lobby.

I'd suggest you make the bike safe and enjoyable and don't spend more money than you have to. Chances are you'll be looking for something more modern if your interest in motorcycling lasts. There's something to be said for vintage motorcycles, but modern technology vastly improves enjoyment and safety.

This is my first street bike. I grew up riding dirtbikes, but now I am interested in working on/restoring and old street bike. I am actually considering building a sort of cafe-racer style bike.

Thanks for the welcome, and for the info/advice. I am sure this forum will come in handy whenever I run into issues or problems.
