New Bike For my Girlfriend!

Now this is the response I was looking for!!! +1

You and I seem to be exactly on the same page. I suppose it helps your girlfriend was sorta the same.

I'll have to go find a bike like that to look at. Also I think a 750 is a bit big but I'll show her one and see what she thinks.

Nope not too big..

Remember, it's a funny thing but bigger bikes are more stable then smaller bikes.

On a 250 it's harder to do stop sign balances than on the 750 (for example).

The general 250s need to have the ring revved out of them to get them going, the current 600 crop are much the same..

There is nothing like being able to just dump the clutch and have the bike look at you, say UGGGHH and have it just start to walk away. I like that much better than revving the poor thing and slipping the clutch and keeping the revs up.. Rode a friends thing years ago and it was shocking.

The wet clutch is a god send compared to our dry ones, just keep the oil fresh and they are perfect for a beginner. Remember that if she is coming from driving a car she will be reluctant to rev the thing like we know they need so torque is your friend.

Again I'd make her save and pay for it because if she's not vested in it, it probably isn't the right time.

Cheers

hey turnandburn
i fell in love with my ducati riding ex hubby and knew that i wanted a ducati of my own straight away...but went the second hand 'other' bike first up..
coz i knew if i dropped a ducati...i would find it hard to get over...may have even given up!!

going that way sorta took the pressure off me during the learning process..
made it easier to relax and enjoy getting to know the how's and what's about riding on the road
didnt matter so much if i dropped an ol dunger!!my learner was a road/trail bike as i had done some dirtbike riding in earlier years

didnt take long and i had my ducati..havent looked back

and from a girly perspective..im liking what sheik is sayin

hi sheik

Just went through this with my wife. She watched me ride Ducs for the last 12+ years and when i got the new 848 she was set on getting her own bike. She did shopping, test riding, and all the purchase paperwork. I was there to lend a few words of advise, but generally stayed out of it. I did suggest, and she tried a Triumph street triple, a Multistrada, and an older M750. In the end she was set on a new 696. While waiting for that she did her MSF course, and rode the 848 some. When she finally got her 696 she was in love. I think she is more excited about riding than I am on a daily basis.

It is a great beginners bike, but remember the price of entry and the inevitable drops are higher. Very pliable power, and as was mentioned, low end grunt that is making riding, especially around town much more fun. The other thing to consider is if she is on a little 250, and you are riding together she will have that thing strung out just to keep up, and that in and of itself makes the riding less enjoyable..

Just my experience, but she should get what she wants, and do the math and legwork to make sure she is prepared for riding it. Does she have any girlfriends who ride? My wife has a couple and that has made a huge difference, as she will go out with them and riding is now more than just "riding" it is also "girl-time".

Good luck!

the girl time riding sounds nice for your mrs azmcs

hey turn'n'burn......i forgot to add....and as height is an issue for your girl...
(almost the same dimensions here)
you can always lower the ride height for her.. we've done this for a lot of ladies at
the shop....and we have a few lady customers who ride monsters (because of seat height ,ride position and easy manoeuvreability), and a few on superbikes and sportsbikes who have had it done, myself included with the 848
being flat footed or close to it, helps with confidence levels when youre a learner and a little on the tiny side......

Thank you for all the info. It has helped a lot while out shoppin around.

Funny you should say lower the ride height. My friend and I were just talking about that yesterday. We were wondering how low we could go on her bike once she gets one.

Anyway, thanks again and i will keep you posted.
