Never before ridden a road bicycle but really really want to learn?

How should I go about this? I figure I can buy second-hand at a pawn shop. What other steps should I take?
Found one years ago just sitting out with the trash. Rode it home then junked it myself...shame.
 
yep buy used and cheap and when you get better at it you can take that next step. Oh yeah, its just like ridding a bike too!
