so my wife calls me tonight(I'm still in tulsa), and tells me a letter arrived from the Navy. It's dated the 7th and says I have 10 days to show for a mandatory inactive reserve muster.. wait wait wait...

inactive reserve muster?

isnt it the Active reserves who are the ones who muster on an every few month basis? why am I being called in to muster for the INACTIVE reserves.. Anyway the letter blabbers on about it not being a call to duty or a recall or whatnot, so I'm not activated.. maby.. The letter also states failure to show can result in reactivation.. Now I doubt they would reactivate me because the letter didnt show in time. But then again.. its the military. They do that shit for fun. But that would be the last way they would want me. If they thought my last year of voluntary active service was hell... I'll give em something to cry over.... No way these fuckheads are gonna cost me a good job and my house(due to the fucking paycut to go back in) without a fight.

but anyway I dont think they will but I would like to know why I have to physically muster somewhere when I'm inactive. I mean shit people have lives.

You have to muster? How long have you been out?

I have not heard anything about this, any more information you could share would be great. I can also agree with you about all the last minut shit that has been going on for the last 2 years.

You think they might have mixed up your paper work, or perhaps someone is fucking with you?
 
They did that to a family friend of mine. Said he had to be somewhere, but he didn't get the letter in time, so they court marshalled him or some shit like that. Give 'em hell Dark!
 
Im confused about the whole Military thing.

I was told by a friend that once you serve your 4 years (or whatever) you are then 2 years inactive but officially out of the military. In that 2 year period, you can be called to serve in war. Thats what Happened to my cousin back in 91 during the gulf war. he got out in 2000 and they threw his ass back in to fight in Kuwait.

anyways, Im hearing people who havnt been in the military can be called into active duty as many as 20 years afterwards (Especially if they're doctors or have other skills needed).

So I guess once you Join up with Uncle Sam, you're in it for the rest of your life?
 
ok well I called the command and its like this. I've been selected as a specific group of possible recalls. Like say we need more navy sailors tommorow my name comes up first.(fuck them). but as it stands now I am NOT reactivated. They told me its mostly a bullshit warning to scare you into attending the muster. Ultimately I have to muster on july 8th now in my own state. They will count me and do a light physical to determin I'm still fat, and thats it..
