Given: Pk alpha COOH=1.99
Pk beta COOH= 3.90
Pk alpha NH3+=9.90
Find: net charge for ph1 and ph3?
Answer: net charge ph1 = 1, net charge ph3=0
Need to know how you get this answer? I dont understand.
If Ph>Pk deprotonate, if Ph<Pk then protonate:
if this is case then for ph 1: alpha COOH=+1, beta COOH=+1, and alphaHN3+=+1 so net = +3
what am i missing? Please explain lamen terms and thoroughly so i can apply to any amino acid. Thanks.
