Okay, my ex bf got an order of protection against me. He was doing that to spite me and realizes now he wants to drop it and work out vistation with our son. When we went to the hearing I had a lawyer. Because I did, he asked for time to get one. Now he wants me to drop my lawyer so he don't have to get one, which doesn't make any sense. But I told him that I think my lawyer can work on both our behalf since he wants to drop the order and work together as friends for our son. Can my lawyer speak for both of us, since he wants to drop it. He said if my lawyer can't help us both, that he wants me to drop my lawyer, so he don't have to get one. He thinks if he doesn't get a lawyer and I have one that since he asked the judge for time to get one and he doesn't, that he could be held in contempt, which I don't believe is true. Basically we worked out an agreement and he wants me to either drop my lawyer or see if my lawyer can speak for both of us. What can we do, is that even possible?

Don't do it. A lawyer can't work for both of you effectively. It is a conflict of interest. Get your own lawyer. And don't worry if he has a lawyer or not. That's his problem.

Please, please, please, please, please do NOT try to have your lawyer attempt to represent both of you! This is a terrible idea. If anything goes wrong down the road and you and the ex go back to court, you will have to get a new attorney! Your old one would have an unwaivable conflict of interest and would have to step out of the case.

Besides, there is no reason at all for your attorney to represent you both here. Your attorney can ask the court to set aside the protection order. Your ex's consent is gravy, but not needed. Under no circumstances should you get rid of your attorney - your ex is merely trying to take advantage of you.

And he's right about one thing at least, you have a huge advantage over him right now. Don't waste it.
