Need to ID the author of a book about hiking the Continental Divide?

I read a book back in the late '70s written by a man who had hiked the Continental Divide with his brother. The book was a recounting of their adventure. I believe he had also written a book about traversing the Pacific Crest Trail. Ring any bells with anyone.
 
I remember the book but the not the name of the author. I'm pretty sure it was called "Continental Divide."

Didn't they make a movie out of it with Richard Dreyfuss? Or am I thinking of something entirely different?
