I can't remember very much about it, something about a little boy searching for something in a strange land, for some reason he has gold metal legs, that's something to do with his quest I think, I'm not sure think he has a girl companion but I'm not sure and he has a funny old fashioned name, maybe biblical like Nicodemus.
It's all infuriatingly dream like so can't be sure about my memories of the book, but I'd love to find it again and find out
edit: some more details read it in the early 80's it was in English but might have been translated I have a vague feeling of all the names in it sounding Spanish. I remember it being a strange book which I think means that I might have been sightly too young for the age group, I must have been 8-9. which means it was probably read to me at school I had started a Steiner school in Bristol in UK at that age
