The following is a chat transcript between my wife and me earlier today. This is a common type of dialogue between us and it usually ends similarly. Just prior to this I had told her I was having a busy day and she asked me what I was having for lunch. Am I being too ambiguous and indecisive or is she being manipulative? At one point in the conversation I do mention that another day would probably be better.
Was I maybe wrong to bring up the lunch invite if I preferred she came another day? Any constructive feedback is appreciated.
Her: you wanna have lunch with me sometime this week maybe?
Her: sure
Her: any day
Me: ok
Me: any day is good for me too
Her: well, if its today you'd need to let me know asap
Her: since my hair is still in a towel
Me: I'd hate to see you hurrying... unless you have nothing to eat, how about we plan on another day?
Her: up to you
Me: ok
Her: ok
Me: i know this isn't going to go away, so let's decide what we want to do.
Her: you sound really pissy today
Her: maybe i should leave you alone
Her: i know work is stressful
Me: really? i'm sorry
Her: yes
Her: you sound burdened by the thought of having to talk to me
Me: i love talking to you. i just feel like i put you in a bit of a limbo when i made the invite. i didn't mean for that to happen.
Her: ok
Her: well i'm leaving the house because i have to make a return at target
Her: whether you'd like that return to be via you is up to you
Her: and i will likely swing by mcdonalds for a snack wrap if i'm coming home
Me: i'm available anytime. come whenever works best for you.
Her: now i feel like you're annoyed
Her: i'm just going to stay home
Her: and leave you be
Her: i love you
