I thought about the same question before, and I settled with 1098. They both are nice bikes and the 848's wet clutch is a little easier to ride compare with 1098 dry clutch. For the small price difference, I'll go with 1098 comes with better brake, damper, dry clutch (sounds of it), power and not to mention of value of future upgrade. Lots my buddies ride on 600cc wish they have liter bike now. Either bike can go really fast, just take it easy and enjoy the ride
