Need some advise

You will not get bored with the 848. If you have never ever ridden a streetbike before I am not sure i would consider any of Ducati's superbikes. Not just a question of rider skill but a question of learning an entirely different way of riding combined with learning to safely ride with cages all around. You will be trying to focus on a whole bunch of different things at once and it is far too easy to be overcome by the experience of a superbike and lose focus on all of the things involved in being safe. Ride on the street for awhile first, then make your decision.
 
You shouldn't mess around with buying wimpy bikes like the 848 or the 1098.

Just buy yourself a Desmosedici, and when you get bored with the power, slap a turbo on it.

No moving up needed.

I rode and raced Motocross before I rode street bikes and have also read several articles that state that MX really helps in your street skills, I recall the article mentioning that MXers do so much by reflex. If you are a skilled MXer you will have no problem transitioning to the street. If you are in fact an experienced MXer I believe you can handle either bike. Just be patient and do not ride over your head.
 
I thought about the same question before, and I settled with 1098. They both are nice bikes and the 848's wet clutch is a little easier to ride compare with 1098 dry clutch. For the small price difference, I'll go with 1098 comes with better brake, damper, dry clutch (sounds of it), power and not to mention of value of future upgrade. Lots my buddies ride on 600cc wish they have liter bike now. Either bike can go really fast, just take it easy and enjoy the ride

Ducati offers special APR for 1098 now, and it the extra value if you are planning on finance the bike. Offer expires on 10/31/2008. 0.9% up to 36 months and 2.9% up to 72 months. GE Money bank also offers different tiers if you are not perfect in FICO scores.
 
Test ride is good advice. Although I found it imposible to find a Ducati Dealer close enough that had a bike that they would allow to be used to test ride. So you may need to test ride another brand just to see how street riding feels. Then go throw down the bucks for the Duc. I still insist if you have reasonable MX skill the streets are a breeze. Just gotta look out for those stop signs and traffic lights.
 
Well...... It is a Duc forum, and I know it's not what you want to hear.. But best bet would be to get any of the late model (2005-2008) Japanese 600's... their cheap by the dozen, excellent fast bikes. Use the extra $$ to do some really good track school's and you won't slit your wrist 1st time you throw it away in turn.. Rather see you back here in a year (alive & well) enjoying your new 1198S (in black) giving all the posers the bird while dragging your knee through an awesome decreasing radius..
