When you go in to see your dermatologist remeraber to make it sound like your acne is really bothering you. I finally went to my dermatologist a couple yrs ago, I think the whole appointment lasted 3 minutes and I could tell he could care less about helping me like my acne wasn't a big deal. He was saying things like "oh it's common with people your age that work out and sweat a lot" so he gave me panoxyl and of course to this day I still have the same type of acne. :(

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll make an appointment tomorrow with my doctor to get recommended to a dermatologist!

Hi.. I'm currently using proactive but I don't think it's helping me. I'm still getting pimples and some pimples on my chin won't go away. I developed this HUGE red pimple on my upper lip and it seems like every time I put proactive on it.. it makes it worse. Can someone help me. I'm losing my fight against acne and I want to know what's out there that really works.

I had horrible skin and used pro-active( which I did not like) but a friend told me about a cleanser that helped her so much. Prescriptives cleanser for oily skin is my life saver.

Good idea! You might be able to get your doctor to prescribe (or just give you a sample of) Differin or something like that while you're there, to hopefully begin the process before you get to the dermatologist. He/she would probably do that for you.

I seen a dermatologist a couple years ago. It was just one visit. She gave me retin-a I think that's what it was called but it just made my face red. Anyone got any suggestions on what I should ask for? like should I ask her to put me on accutane etc.

newuser I'm dieing to know what prescriptive cleanser you use for oily skin. My skin gets really oily about 3-4 hours after I wash my face and I'm usually at school and no place to clear the oil.

Have you tried seeing a dermatologist? Sometimes you just can't fix the problem on your own. I know alot of people on here recommend diet changes. You could surf around on here and see what you find about that. But I decided to see a derm. and change my diet. Good luck!

How long did you stay on Retin-A? I think it may be one of those treatments that makes you get worse before it gets better, so it's possible you didn't give it a long enough opportunity to work. Maybe?

I was on Accutane in 1999, and since then, from what I've heard, dermatologists are a lot more reluctant to prescribe it, unless they've tried several other prescription meRAB without success. It's just strong stuff, and my dermatologist, at least, made me come in every month while I was on it for blood tests and such. I have absolutely NO regrets about going on it, and it ultimately changed my skin's chemistry PERMANENTLY, which is amazing! But just be aware that you might not be able to just "ask for it" and get a prescription. In terms of topical medications, I recommend Differin.

:D Guess what really works well and it is completely natural. Apple cidar vinegar. After you wash your face, pat dry. Take apple cidar vinegar and pour some onto the palms of your hanRAB. Next splash over face and rub around. Keep out of eye area and if you have any mouth sores. Suddenly you will notice redness but that's okay it'll go away and your acne will actually look minimized. It puts that PH balance in your skin naturally. Continue, your skin in two to three times will get used to it. No picking grooooosssss.... Unfortunately I did that and now i've got pock marks on the sides of my face. If I only tried this then... And didn't pick at my face... I'd be beautiful like all of you who do this.

Ok so I went to my doctor and he approved my request to see a dermatologist. Good. But it will take a week to two weeks before I can see him. Anyone got any advice about little tricks that can work in the mean time? I remeraber seeing a thread around hear saying that cocoa butter works really well on the acne too.

I have had acne for years and have tried many things. I have never used Proactive, but I have finally come up with my own regimen so that the only time I break out is around the time I get my period, but then it's gone within a couple days. I have very oily skin, so everything I use is oil-fighting. Bear in mind this is strictly oil-fighting, not shine control. There is a bar soap called PanOxyl that you can get at just about any drug store, even Wal-Mart carries it. I wash twice a day with that, follwed by Clean-and-Clean's oil fighting astringent. Then I use an oil-fighting moisturizer, also by clean-and-clear. It has a nice, fresh, clean smell to it, and does not feel oily like some moisturizers. At night I also use a spot treatment. I have found that Nuetrogena's spot treatment works best. I can't remeraber the exact name of it, but it is a clear gel that claims it reduces redness in 16 hours or something. A little bit goes a long way, and it actually works quite well. I also use Nuetrogena's ance scar fading mask. Or if I have broken out real bad I will use it twice a week. This works really well! Especially to get rid of scaring. You can see a result as soon as you rinse it off!

If you do get an appointment with a dermatologist, ask about Differin. My friend uses it, and I used it for a couple of days when we went on a trip and I forgot my spot treatment and I broke out. It worked really well.

Hope this helps

Yes, I definitely suggest seeing a dermatologist. Or even your primary care physician should be able to prescribe Differin, which I highly recommend!

Also, I had great success with Accutane. I know some people are scared of that stuff, but honestly, I have not had true acne since. Just a few pimples every now and then. It's great stuff.

I heard about differin I'll ask her about that. I didn't stay on retin-a for long because it made my face red and it just looked horrible.

I don't eat that much. I eat under 1000 calories I believe. I don't eat much because I'm busy with school all day. But I usually have some cereal with some eggs in the morning and whatever I can eat in the afternoon.

newuser I'm still waiting for your reply on what product u use for oily skin. Thanks.

No way not cocoa butter, it is greasy and can clog up your pores... Try to get differin at the Derm. Do try to act like your acne is really bothering you and you feel like you've got to try to hide away, maybe he'll really try to help you, it worked for me.

Where do you get prescriptives cleanser? I'd like to get some and try it... Thank you!
