I am searching for a good neurosurgeon in northeast Texas. My MRI results show that I have a Tarlov cyst 7cmX5cm on my sacrum, bulging disk at L5-S1, possible swelling at T6. The neurosurgeon I went to acted like it was no big deal but was unable to tell me what was causing my symptoms. I am wanting a second opinion but do not know which neurosurgeon to go to. This started out with swelling, nurabness, burning pain on the left side of my body down to my toes...then it advanced to my right leg and foot. I can't stand for very long but then I can't sit for very long either. If anyone knows of a good neurosurgeon in northeast Texas, please let me know.

Hi Holley! Welcome to the board!

I had my surgery done in Plano, Texas by Dr. Steven Courtney-an Orthopedic Spine Specialist. He is with an outstanding group and his staff are wonderful. The Texas Back Institute is also there and they are very well known. I don't know if you would have to see a Neuro or not.

I hope you get some good answers!

Blessings!
Michelle

Thanks for the recommendation, but I have to go to a neurosurgeon. My family physician has tried to refer me to an orthopedic spine specialist and he wouldn't see me....said I needed to see a neurosurgeon. Just don't know who to pick!

To Holley,
I am a new meraber here, and confused what forum to post this. A tarlov is a lurabo problem. The tarlov cyst foundation has recommendation for docs as well as other good recommendations.

Carole,
Thanks for the recommendation. My primary physician did make a referral for me to Dr. Danielson 3 weeks ago. The lady that makes the appointments in the office called me and said that Dr. Danielson really didn't work on the lurabar spine....so now I have an appointment with Dr. Jon Ledlie at Tyler Neurosurgical Associates. Do you know anything about this doctor?
Thanks,
Holley

I don't understand about Dr. Danielson not working on the lurabar. That's exactly where all 3 of my surgeries were. Sorry, I don't know anything about the other doctor. I do have a friend who had great success at the Plano clinic another poster listed.

Best wishes,
Carole

You should see Dr. Danielson in Tyler at the Spine and Joint Hospital. He's excellent, will listen and treat you right. He's done 3 surgeries for me; that may sound like he didn't get it right the first time, but they were for different things. One was a fusion and the other two were laminectomies at different places. They were done within a 3 year period, the last one being done in 2006. Yes, I still have some pain and probably always will have, but not to the extent that I did, and I rarely have to take medication for it.

Blessings,
Carole
