As per the title im considering getting a GPS module. does anyone have recommendations for an inexpensive GPS module that works with Nokias Smart2Go program?

Any issues with Smart2Go and this receiver? It looks pretty good and cheaper then the Nokia LD-3W.

Other then that

Both have Sirf Star III, 20 parallel channels
LD-3W claims 15hrs battery and the 236 10hrs (5 hrs difference isnt that bad)
LD-3W is bluetooth 2.0 and from the info online the Holux is 1.1 (dose it matter that much?)

Also the LD-3W supports NMEA 0183 v. 3.01 and the Holux is NMEA0183 v2.2 whats the dif?

Wiki says NMEA is just the standard for how the info is sent but would it make any difference what version number it is?

The Nokia will also use the same charger. May not be important to you, but it's super convenient for me that with one adapter I can charge my phone, bt headset, and gps unit. reduces clutter. I have the LD-1W and it works great.

I'd like to stick my oar in for the Holux. Great little performer- don't even have to take it out of your pocket. The charging contact is however a mini usb so you can't use your Nokia charger.

Unfortunately that is not true. The LD-1W and N73 use different chargers. I had the same charger for my LD-1W, Nokia BT headset, and 3230 until I replaced the 3230 with the N73. Now they are different. I was just looking and it looks like Nokia sells an adapter to let you use the old chargers with the new phones.

Not sure why they changed em, they had the same one for years which was very convenient.

You're correct, kinda. Most of the newer devices that use the smaller barrel charger are shipped with an adapter about 4 inches long that converts the older, larger barrel into the smaller one. So I have indeed one cord and I can either add or remove this small adapter to charge my phone, GPS, or headset all with the same plug.

Anyone have compatibility issues with the Globalsat models and the N73?

I hear that the Qstarz model does not communicate well with the N73, the bluetooth connection always drops out. Anyone experience this?

Holux 240 supurb battery life, plus they give you a car charger to go along with it and you can charge it with any usb..It locks on in about 30 seconds and is sirfstar 3 so its pretty accurate. I recommend have had it for about 4 months now.

I have an F-Tech solar GPS unit (common on ebay, just search for solar GPS) they are very good. It connects perfectly to all apps and ive only ever had to charge it once in its life! Unless you use it a LOT it will recharge via the solar panel.

It uses the Mediatek MT3 chipset and connects to 32 satellites.
