Okay, so I'm trying to decide between the Canon a3100IS or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20

I don't care about the difference in megapixels, the HD movie,$40 dollar price difference etc. what i want to know is which one to choose. 1)Which one gets more praise? I know Canon is a well-known brand but i've also heard that a lot of their point and shoots get the fatal "lens error" problem and stop working. 2)If I don't zoom in and out a lot on the canon, will I be able to avoid the lens error problem? 3) if you have had a canon p&s, has the lens error happened to you? 4)I've also heard praise of panasonic's iAuto feature and how good it is, have you exp. this?
So as a photographer, for a simple person like me that will probably only use the AUTO mode most of the time, needs the camera for pictures of friends and family, etc. with non-blurry, or grainy pictures, which would be the best camera, that is easy for me, while still packing some good features?
