Need opinion on whether I should pay bills, or get my car fixed... Thx?

My situation ... I live alone with my dog and a few days ago the cluthc went out on my car. Financially I'm at a bad spot in my life and faamily/friends seem to being just as worse. Long story short... I found a guy who will replace the clutch for 750 dollars... which I could get the ball rolling out of this pay check tomorrow but I need to pay my electric and cable bill... because it's way past due, and it's bloddy cold outside. However, I must get to work. The thing is I work 20 minutes from my house and besides the downtown traffic I think I could swing it for a couple weeks until I come up with the money, but take the risk of the clutch going out for good. The accelaration on my vehicle sucks and reeally worked the hell out of the engine this morning. So... should I wait 2 weeks and hope that my clutch doesn't go out, or don't pay my bill, possibly stay with a friend for a few weeks and pay the money now until I could get this worked out? Plz advice ?
 
if possible pay the bills and fix the car if not pay the bills cancel the cable service and any thing else you can stop or reduce. find a temporary ride to work with a freind or on a cheap bicycle untill you can fix the car and repair it as soon as possible. also if you know what is wrong with the car,shop the repair with other mechanics. sometimes transmission shops cost less than general repair shop for clutch replacement. as soon as you have handled this emergency re adjust your budget to save up and pay for the next repair in cash.
 
I had to replace my clutch last year, and let me tell you, when it goes "out", you can't drive the car. If you are still able to drive it, then it's not out. But if it's bad, I would not suggest you drive it because if it goes out on the road like mine did, you will have to pay a tow truck driver to move it and that will cost $100 alone.

$750 is a good price. I paid $650 but it was a friend. If you haven't recieved shut off notices from the utility companies, I would call them. Sometimes they can be understanding and maybe they will let you slide an extra week or 2.

I say pay for the car. If you don't have a car you can't get to work and you can pay the bills anyway.

Also, is there public transportation you can take for a few weeks? Like a bus? If so, try that so that you can save up the money for the car.
 
let the cable bill go for now....call the electric company tell them you want a payment plan or that you are in a tight spot and need some extra time...call the mechanic and ask if you can have an extra week or so and give him some money to start.
With all this you can get something out of it..even if one says no the other might say yes.
The squeeky wheel gets the oil....
